His primary area of practice is in employment law, specifically, license defense with registered nurses and other medical officers. Ian Fletcher represents registered nurses before their licensing agency, the Board of Registered Nursing, defending them against accusations and providing disclosure services for when they need to notify the Board of a conviction as an already licensed nurse or on an application.

He also assists medical officers though internal investigation interviews by ensuring that their rights given under the Officer Bill of Rights are not violated.

In addition, Ian is experienced in contract analysis and drafting, which involves communicating with clients to gain perspective of their objectives in a transactional sense then working though their contracts to tailor the language to suit their needs. As a part of this work, Ian both works though redlining contracts already provided by other parties to my clients and drafting contracts from scratch and have drafted a wide variety of contracts from service agreements to phantom stock agreements.

When asked his favourite part of his work, Ian says, “I enjoy the client interaction and communication. I appreciate the time it takes to build a rapport with clientele and learn about their lives/situations. I also enjoy any opportunity to learn the ever-evolving law and policies. Working in the transactional sector gives me time to research statutes and occasionally grapple with the tax codes which I thoroughly enjoy.â€

I wanted to be a lawyer from a young age and dedicated my studies at college and university to achieving this ambition. Family law was always an area I hoped to specialise in; it allows me to help those experiencing difficulties or trauma in their lives and in doing so it provides a sense of purpose. I love that no one day is ever the same.

I assist clients with a full range of issues involving divorce and family law. I specialise in ending a relationship, children and family law. I am the team leader of the Kent Divorce and Family team, and have responsibility for the supervision of the other lawyers in the team.

I am an accredited member of the Law Society’s Family Panel. This is an assessed accreditation scheme which recognises those with family law expertise and experience.

I have been involved in the local Law Society and was previously a Trustee of the YMCA in Kent. I have set up and maintain excellent contacts with local mediators and Counsel as well as other solicitors.

My specialist areas are technical probate matters, tax planning and trusts. I am a Notary Public, of which there are only a handful in my area.

Throughout my training to become a solicitor, I wanted to specialise in commercial and corporate law. The draw of the big business and big figures always seemed attractive. However, upon qualification, I had the opportunity to try the field of private client when I covered a period of maternity leave in the Wills, Trusts and Probate team. It did not take long for me to have a change of direction. Big business may be appealing, but there is nothing as satisfying as helping individuals overcome the legal hurdles that are often placed before them. The sense of achievement is far greater.

I act as an honorary legal adviser to local charities. The queries I receive can be very diverse and challenging, but being able to help at this level is very rewarding.
